Sachin Tendulkar Records That May Never Be Broken
Some Sachin Tendulkar records are no longer safe. Virat Kohli has already passed his 49 ODI centuries, while Joe Root has brought the Test-run record within reach. But some of Tendulkar’s other records were built over a 24-year international career. Very few players will ever have that much time.
1. Most International Runs – 34,357
Sachin Tendulkar scored 15,921 runs in Tests, 18,426 in ODIs and 10 in his only T20 international. That gives him 34,357 international runs.
Even at 2,000 international runs a year, a batter would need more than 17 seasons to pass him. One serious injury, a long loss of form or an early retirement from one format could end the chase. Modern batters may score faster, but they are unlikely to play enough international matches.
2. Most International Centuries – 100
Tendulkar scored 51 Test centuries and 49 ODI centuries. He remains the only cricketer to reach 100 international hundreds. His ODI-century record has been broken, but no one has reached his combined total.
At five international centuries a year, a batter would need 20 years to reach 100. No batter scores hundreds at the same rate every season. A few poor years would make the target much harder.
Tendulkar scored his first international hundred in 1990 and his 100th in 2012. The gap between them was 22 years.

4. Most ODIs Played – 463
Tendulkar’s 463 ODI appearances remain the highest by any cricketer. At 25 ODIs a year, a player would still need more than 18 seasons to reach 463. National teams now rest senior players more often, and franchise leagues take up a growing part of the calendar.
The record may survive simply because modern players no longer get enough ODIs.
5. Most ODI Runs – 18,426
Tendulkar’s 18,426 ODI runs remain the highest in the format. At 1,000 ODI runs a year, a batter would need more than 18 seasons to pass him.
A modern batter may score faster than Tendulkar and still fall short if he plays far fewer ODIs. Without close to 400 matches, even a great batter would struggle to reach 18,426 runs.
Why These Sachin Tendulkar Records May Last
Tendulkar debuted at 16 and played international cricket until he was 40. He also remained a first-choice player as the game changed around him.
A modern player can play plenty of cricket and still play fewer internationals. Franchise leagues, workload breaks and early retirement from one format all reduce the number of Tests and ODIs available.
