Rohit Sharma Records That May Never Be Broken
Some Rohit Sharma records may stand for years. He scored three ODI double centuries and also set major World Cup records in 2019 and 2023. These records can be broken, but none of them will be easy to reach.
1. Highest Individual Score in ODI Cricket – 264
Rohit Sharma scored 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in 2014. It remains the highest individual score in ODI cricket.
A batter would probably have to open and remain at the crease for nearly all 50 overs. Even then, there would be little room for a slow start. The match would also have to last long enough. A small chase or rain interruption could leave too few overs for such an innings. Several batters can score quickly. Very few can do it for almost an entire ODI.
2. Only Batter with Three ODI Double Centuries
Rohit Sharma has crossed 200 three times in ODI cricket:
• 209 against Australia in 2013
• 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014
• 208 not out against Sri Lanka in 2017
No other batter has scored more than one ODI double century. Reaching 200 usually means batting through most of the innings. Even after reaching 100, the batter still has to score another hundred before the overs run out. Rohit often accelerated after reaching his hundred. No one else has even done it twice.
3. Most Centuries in a Single World Cup – Five
Rohit scored five centuries in the 2019 World Cup, against South Africa, Pakistan, England, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. No other batter has scored five hundreds in a single edition. In 2019, India played nine group matches. Rohit scored hundreds in five of them. He also maintained that form even after teams began changing their plans against him.
4. Most Sixes in a Single World Cup – 31
Rohit hit 31 sixes during the 2023 Cricket World Cup, the most by any batter in one edition of the tournament. Unlike in 2019, Rohit attacked from the start in 2023. He often took risks in the powerplay rather than batting deep into the innings.
Breaking it would mean hitting roughly three sixes per match throughout the tournament. That becomes much harder after even one or two early dismissals. This may be the first of the four records to fall because modern batters hit more sixes. But 31 in one World Cup is still a difficult target.
